Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) typed letter signed in black ink, "Herbert Hoover," as president, 1p, on bifold watermarked White House stationery, 7" x 9", Washington, November 16, 1932, to William Bayard Sturgis. We believe the recipient, William Bayard Sturgis could be the Chicago sportsman and author, as both men had a fondness for fly fishing. Two inner pages blank. Central horizontal mailing fold. Wear includes age toning, gentle wrinkles, and handling marks. Overall, very good to near fine condition.
In part:
"My dear Mr. Sturgis:
I have been deeply touched by the thousands of messages from friends who, like yourself, have loyally supported my efforts…"
An especially interesting post-election presidential letter, written just eight days after the November 8, 1932, presidential election, in which Franklin D. Roosevelt defeated incumbent Herbert Hoover. The letter is a gracious expression of appreciation to a supporter who had written Hoover following the election.
