First edition of this monograph of the Emperor Napoleon by Paul-Mathieu Laurent, known as Laurent de l'Ardèche (1793-1877) who participated in the construction of the Napoleonic legend. It reviews the life of the Emperor from his birth to his death.
It is illustrated with a frontispiece engraved by Brevière and numerous compositions in the text after Horace Vernet, in the first printing.
Copy covered in a pretty binding signed Catoir in red half-morocco with period corners. Back decorated with personalized and gilded irons, imperial eagle at the top.
Condition: slight rubbing on the caps, corners and joints. Fresh interior, foxing on the frontispiece and endpapers, verse work on the half-title. Good condition. Heraldic ex-libris on the first back cover.
