Signed by the artist at the bottom The painting is in good condition, please note that one of the little birds has a minor lack of pigment in the head area. The painting is exhibited in a gilded, wooden frame from a subsequent period (20th century) . Dimensions of the painting: 12 cm height x 19 cm width Dimensions of the frame: 25 cm height x 32 cm width : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST (Torremolinos, Málaga, 1838 - Madrid, 1890) . Spanish painter. He studied in Cádiz under the direction of Serafín Martínez del Rincón and in 1872 he was appointed secretary of the Fine Arts section of the Liceo de Málaga. In 1874 he moved to Paris. This gave him the opportunity to attend Léon Bonnat’s workshop. In 1882 he returned to Spain and he settled permanently in Madrid. In addition to portraiture and caricature he cultivated the composition of small still lifes, decorative artistic whims with poetic and literary titles, such as A pesar de ello, Leonora y Manrique, the last two inspired by the characters of Antonio García Gutiérrez’s opera, El trovador, which was premiered at the Teatro Príncipe in 1836. Suffering from a deadly disease, he committed suicide in his Madrid studio.
