Heavy brass figure of a laughing Hotei with a protuding belly and holding a separate fan in his right hand. Nicely shaped with a good happy expression. Complete with seperate traditional fan (gunbai) . Bottom mark: Hōichi. Showa Period. Weights 11. 2 kg ! ! ! The figure of Hotei is traditionally depicted as a fat, bald monk wearing a simple robe. He carries his few possessions in a cloth sack, being poor but content. Excitingly entertaining the adoring children that followed him and was known for patting his large belly happily (Wikipedia) Lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered post.
