Heavy brass figure of a laughing Hotei with a protuding belly and holding a separate fan in his right hand. Nicely shaped with a good happy expression. Complete with seperate traditional fan (gunbai) . Bottom mark: Hōichi. Showa Period. Weights 11. 2 kg ! ! ! The figure of Hotei is traditionally depicted as a fat, bald monk wearing a simple robe. He carries his few possessions in a cloth sack, being poor but content.
