Hubeite on Apophyllite on Quartz Fengjiashan Mine, Daye Co., Huangshi, Hubei, China 16.3 × 5.4 × 5.3 cm (6.42 × 2.13 × 2.09 in) A towering Quartz specimen is dominated by a 16.3-centimeter primary crystal, accompanied by smaller Quartz crystals along one side that create a balanced, multi-crystal composition. The main crystal is partially gemmy, with a water-clear termination that transitions into transparent to milky zones lower on the prism, all enhanced by a bright vitreous luster. One side of the principal crystal is encrusted with a microcrystalline layer of reddish-brown Hubeite, which is in turn covered by a sparkling druse of gemmy, colorless Apophyllite. The contrast between the transparent Quartz, earthy Hubeite coating, and brilliant Apophyllite druse gives the specimen an especially distinctive appearance.
