Huge 19th C. Chinese Qing Porcelain Bowl

[ translate ]

East Asia, China, Qing dynasty, ca. early 19th century CE. A very large Chinese porcelain bowl of the Rose Mandarin/Famille Rose (French for "pink family") style, finely executed on a raised ring-footed base, and beautifully decorated with figural and landscape scenes against a gold leaf foliage on white ground embellishing the exterior walls with a fineline black, white, and gold leaf border above. The charming vignettes including a woman and two children enjoying freshly picked cherries from the cherry tree in the country setting with birds flying in the sky and lush green foliage in the landscape as well. Gold leaf quality: 31.47%. Size: 15.625" W x 6.5" H (39.7 cm x 16.5 cm)

In addition, there are several village scenes, one featuring attendants serving a couple a festive meal at a table with pagoda roofed structures indicating the domestic interior, and lovely houses and bridges dotting the natural mountainous landscape beyond; another with folks of several generations, perhaps belonging to the same family, gathered around a pedestal table set with a lovely vase of flowers; and the last scene presenting a couple spending the afternoon in their pastoral environs with a grazing animal in the distance. The white interior of the bowl is adorned with floral blossoms on the tondo and a rose-hued decorative border. Finally, the foot is decorated with a complementary red and gold floral vine motif. A beautiful example, impressive for its grand size, detailed vignettes, and very nice condition.
