Huge Ancient Chinese Warring States Pottery Urn

East Asia, China, Warring States period, ca. 475 to 221 BCE. A quite large squat storage vessel of a globular form comprised of buff gray pottery with impressed designs covering the curved exterior walls and shoulders of the body which resolves to a short neck and rolled rim. This example has a pleasing form with a mesmerizing array of impressed decorative patterns. Size: 16.75" in diameter x 17" H (42.5 cm x 43.2 cm)

Provenance: private collection of the late Karming Wong; approximate date of acquisition: late 1970 to early 1980

Condition Report: Stabilized cracks, else intact and quite excellent. TL attempted, but as is the case with some clays results were undatable - showing an age in excess of 20,000 years which is not feasible with pottery from this region.
