Huge Bactrian Redware Pottery Vessel TL'd

Central Asia, Bactria, ca. mid 1st millennium BCE. An elegant redware wheel-thrown pottery jar of large form featuring a circular corseted base with impressively thin walls that spread outwards to a bulbous body slightly tapering at its top to form a lipped rim. Numerous horizontal registers of impressed patterns adorn the sides of this remarkable ancient vessel, some among them are parallel horizontal striations, a repetitive rainbow-shaped motif, net-like incisions, and zig-zags, which cover the entire lower half. Truly in remarkable condition for its age, this is a fantastic utilitarian example from a past culture! Size: 12.25" Diameter x 17.5" H (31.1 cm x 44.4 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Condition Report: TL holes to bottom and under top rim. Chips to base and two small chips on rim. Minor repaired and repainted stable fissures. Expected nicks, chips, abrasions, and light softening of detail. Light char marks near rim. Excellent and intact with encrustations in recessed areas and lovely earthen deposits throughout.
