First edition of Humboldt's great work, the culmination of his amazing career, in the rare original wrappers. The fifth & final volume, published after Humboldt's death, is not present, as is often the case.

The atlas by Bromme, sometimes included for sale with the text, is offered separately, in the atlas section of this auction. For as Warren Heckrotte noted, "I have not included Bromme's Atlas zu Kosmos since it was not published with the text or overseen by Humboldt." Indeed, volume 2 carries at the back a description and index of Berghaus' atlas.
Condition Report: Some wear and foxing to wrappers, Vol. III pt. 1 with spine repaired; occasional light foxing within, else very good, rare in original wrappers, in original untrimmed state.
