Title: Hunter S. Thompson signed typescript letter, 1965
Place Published: San Francisco
Publisher:
Date Published: 1965
Description: Typewritten aerogram addressed in holograph, with a few other notes in blue pen. 30x18 cm (12x7“).Hunter S. Thompson typed letter to his childhood friend Paul Semonin. Postmarked 24 April 1965 from San Francisco, Thompson writes in part, “Great jesus, man....It was warm here today and I, with a brutal no-sleep hangover, took Juan out to the beach and rested while he ran around naked and pissed on himself. It was decent sitting there with my dog and a book and a satchel of cold beer and my kid running around like a little animal in the sun. As always, I feel sure the only salvation is personal, and then only for moments here and there. Today I got a check for $100 from the Nation, so I can pay my rent only 10 days late instead of 2 months late like before. I‘ll send you a copy of the piece if and when it runs.“ He signs the letter “Ringo“ in type, circled in blue ink. In the bottom margin of the page, in blue ink as well, he writes “taking Johnson by the horns.“ He signed his name “Thompson“ in blue ink on the address panel. A very entertaining unpublished missive from Hunter to his longtime friend.
Condition Report: Original folds, general light wear and mild toning, minuscule circular hole; very good.
