Published for the first time in 1627, it recounts the antecedents and development of the so-called Rebellion of the Alpujarras, the military uprising of the Granada population of Muslim origin that occurred between 1568 and 1571 that would conclude with the definitive expulsion in 1609 of the last Moors who they lived in Spain. Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, former ambassador to Venice and Rome, representative of the Spanish Italianist poets, was an exceptional, lucid and disenchanted witness of a conflict that led to the destruction of Granada and, in more ways than one, the end of the Andalusian knightly aristocracy .
