IGOL OIL - c. 1960

Original enameled promotional thermometer. 96 x 30 cm. “E A S”

In excellent condition—
notable for the superb vibrancy of its original colors, which are deep, luminous, and marked by vivid reds of superb intensity.

The piece has retained its beautiful original luster and is complete with its original glass capillary tube, which is fully functional.

There are very minor imperfections and localized traces of oxidation on the very outer edges and on the cover—minor signs of wear that in no way detract from the superb aesthetic quality and visual integrity of this piece

Founded in 1949, the French brand IGOL was created by six independent regional industrialists specializing in lubricants (from Amiens, Carvin, Caen, Nevers, Nancy, and Nantes) who joined forces within the Société Nationale des Industriels du Graissage.

Its acronym explicitly stands for “Industriels du Graissage Oil,” and it immediately adopted the famous Gallic rooster as its historic emblem at the suggestion of one of its founders, Maurice Vast.
The brand would later make a name for itself as the “lubricant for extreme conditions” by braving the hellish trails of the Paris-Dakar Rally.
