IMPORTANT CABINET WITH BOULLE MARQUETRY,

so-called "bibliothèque en armoire", Louis XIV, by N. SAGEOT (Nicolas Sageot, maître 1706), Paris ca. 1715/25.

Ebony and red tortoiseshell, exquisitely inlaid with engraved brass fillets in "première partie" and "contre partie"; putti making music, mascarons, birds, flowers, leaves, fillets and decorative frieze. Front with finely paneled double-doors. Opulent matte and polished gilt bronze mounts and applications; the figures on the doors applied ca. 1800: Allegories of Power, Justice and Abundance. Doors with original inner surfaces and locks. Rear wall, replaced.

- formerly in the Collection Armand Löwengrad (1893-1944), Paris (before 1929).
- from a private collection, Germany.
