IMPORTANT NORTHWEST COAST CARVED STORAGE BOX. Comprising a large and impressive carved and polychrome bentwood storage box. Each side panel with relief carved and polychromed imagery. The large, fitted lid carved with three faces. By noted Kwakiutl carver Tsungani, Fearon "Smitty" Smith, Jr., born 1948. Height 22 inches, width 33 inches, depth 18 inches.

Lot is accompanied with letter from Tsungani's sister, Patty Fawn, dated December 8, 1977, addressed to the consignor and with attached picture of the offered lot. An additional handwritten letter (also by Patty Fawn) informs the consignor that the offered lot was carved in the year 1964. It is also accompanied with a photocopy from the publication, The Indian Trader, dated November 1974, and with notes indicating the offered lot was exhibited at the Saint Paul Science Museum. Tsungani is a member of the celebrated Lelooska Family of Kwakiutl artisans, whose works are found in numerous collections in museums worldwide. A fine and important offering.
