Oblong 8vo (4 1/2 x 7 1/4 in.; 115 x 185 mm). 41pp. manuscript diary in ink and pencil, 36 original watercolors, pencil, pen and ink drawings by J. F. Irwin, many with pencil and ink captions, pencil and ink panorama in pocket; one or two stray spots, minor fingersoiling. Original full black leather, bound by Henry Penny's, with metal clasp, covers ruled in blind, edged marbled, decorative endpapers; overall rubbed, with some loss to leather.

Original manuscript of a shooting trip to Kashmir, with 36 ink, pencil, and watercolor drawings

Lieut. J. F. Irwin (59th Regiment, from RMC Sandhurst 1866) contributed illustrations to 'The Graphic', a British periodical that emphasized the presence of sketch and photographic images in an effort to convey the realities of Britain's military interests abroad. A volume of Irwin's sketches forms a part of the collection of the National Army Museum, London.
