United States Pattern 1872 Shako for the Massachusetts National Guard FIRST CORPS OF CADETS. This organization was the commonwealth of Massachusetts' oldest militia unit having been founded in 1741. The shako is complete. The visor is loose but still partially attached. The manufacturer's paper label is affixed to the interior crown; " Bent & Bush, Manufacturers and Dealers Military Goods 387 Washington Street, Boston". The Bent & Bush Company was located at 387 Washington Street from 1877 to 1902. The FIRST CORPS OF CADETS brass plate is affixed to the front and features the unit's motto, "Monstrat Viam" - "It points the Way". The wool body is in excellent condition. The chinstrap is attached by Massachusetts state seal buttons. In-house shipping is available.
