C. 3rd millennium BC. Indus Valley Civilisation. Painted terracotta vessel. Bulbous shaped body with corseted spout standing on a small foot. The vessel is nicely painted with traditional geometric motifs. The Indus Valley Civilisation was an important Bronze Age culture which arose in c. 3300 BC and lasted until c. 1300, though its heyday, to which these kind of ceramic vessels belong, was in the 3rd millennium BC. Large numbers of ceramic decorated vessels have been found among the sophisticated urban settlements of South Asia's protohistoric Indus Valley civilization.
