INFORMER, THE (1935) Oversized photo by Robert Coburn
By Robert Coburn
Vintage original 14 x 11" (36 x 28 cm.) double weight matte-finish gelatin silver print photo, USA. Victor McLaglen, dir: John Ford; RKO. Minor smudge in left blank border, minor creases in blank bottom, JUST ABOUT FINE. A very scarce photo, undoubtedly printed in very small quantities, and with a blindstamp in blank right lower margin of "COBURN". Robert Coburn (1900-1990) was one of the major figures in Hollywood photography. This image is of the film's climactic scene, as informer McLaglen confronts an IRA enforcer who is about to kill him for having betrayed a fellow revolutionary. This classic adaptation of Liam O'Flaherty's novel is one of the high points of director Ford's career.
