Faience decorated in overglaze enamels. On a leaf-shaped tray, an animal combat scene with a lion and gazelle between two tree-stump pen holders. Modelled with two foliate receptacles for a separate pounce pot and an inkwell in the form of a tree stump. Unmarked.
23.5 × 23 × 12 cm.
Inkwell cover missing. Repaired and chipped.

In his collection documentation, P. Ducret was able to identify eleven different Künersberg inkstands, two of which formed part of his own collection; further examples are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (accession no. 1974.356.264a–c), the Swiss National Museum, Zurich (inv. no. HA-4023), the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Munich (inv. nos. 71/489, 72/346, 34/448), and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg (inv. no. 1920.30).
