INSPECTOR’S REPORT ON SCARLET FEVER CASES

Description:

Manuscript D.S., 3pp. large 4to., Vineland, New York, Jan. 2, 1902, a report from Inspector N.P. Mawel sent to the Board of Health of Vineland, New York regarding cases of scarlet fever. He describes the reported cases and his work for the month of December in 1901. In part: ‘...The past month (Dec 1901) has been a repetition of the preceding month relative to the scarlet fever cases...Operated formaldehyde generators...removed flag and caution card...a case of scarlet fever was reported by John S. Halsey...Ruth Barlow; age 5 years...placed (red) flag and caution card on premises and gave the usual sanitary regulations...' The remainder of the report goes on much the same with one interesting entry for Dec. 19th in which a case of typhoid fever was reported and Mawel found that the well water was contaminated. He concludes his report with: ‘...Your contractors have been retarded in their collecting [?] on account of the severe cold weather, and on complaint to me I recommend the use of salt in their buckets during the cold wave...' Lightly soiled, two 1 in. tears at the top edge, else very good.
