LOT 0025

INTERWAR US NAVY FORE & AFT HAT & EPAULETS ID'D

[ translate ]

Accompanied by a handwritten note which says these items belonged to Captain C.G. Grazier, Medical Corps, US Navy -- Grazier was a medical officer who served the navy from 1937 to 1961 and was wounded and awarded the Navy Cross for his actions during the sinking of the USS Panay, a US Navy ship which was attacked in China by the Japanese several years before the American entry into World War II. None of these items appear to be named to Grazier. Fore and Aft hat is a size 7 1/2 made by NS Meyer, consisting of mohair with silk lining and leather sweatband. Appears to have been worn very little during service, though there is a slight wear spot in the fabric near the right of the crown. Epaulets are marked "Left" and "right" and bear the rank of Navy Lieutenant and have the Medical Corps USN insignia, both in bullion, as well as gold tassels and loops for securing to a uniform. They come in the original issue box. Box has a large dent in the bottom, and is missing one of the arms for holding the epaulet. Very Good - Excellent
