Condition Report:
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This work on canvas has an Italian lining. The stretcher is contemporary to the lining. The lining is well applied, and the texture of the paint layer is very attractive.
The painting is clean and lightly varnished. It shows only a few retouches. There is a dot or two in the side of the Doge's palace on the right beneath the balcony. There are a couple of small spots above the gondolas in the buildings beyond. There is a dot in the lower left corner, and a few small dots in the center of the bottom edge. There is a retouching in the shoulder of the red dress of the woman standing in the center. In the sky in the upper center, there is a 1 inch by 1 inch repaired paint loss which is still slightly visible despite the lining and retouching. This restoration could be improved, but the condition is very good overall.
