ITALIAN, 18TH CENTURY
Bust of a Young Boy
white marble and onyx, on a veined red marble socle
bust: 40cm., 15¾in.
49cm., 19¼in. overall
Condition Report:
There are reattachments to the white marble head including to the neck in several places, to the chin, to the tip of the nose, and to both ears. There are a few scuff marks to the forehead, and there is dirt to the surface throughout. There are a few chips to the top lip. The onyx drapery is carved in sections and some sections appear to have been reattached. There are a few dowels to the reverse to reinforce the drapery which are probably original. There are a few reattachments to some of the high points of the drapery. There are chips and small losses to the edges and high points, and there is a larger loss to a fold of drapery at the proper right side. Otherwise the condition of the bust is stable with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The condition of the socle is very good with only a few very minor chips to the edges.
