[ translate ]

IVON HITCHENS
1893-1979
RIVER AT AVINGTON NO.1

signed; also signed, titled, dated 1965 and inscribed on a label on the reverse
oil on canvas
45.5 by 117cm.; 18in by 46in.

Condition Report:
The canvas appears original. There are Artist's pinholes to the canvas overlap, with some instance of pinheads. There are further Artist's pinholes to the extreme corners of the work and the centre of the upper and lower edges, with very small specks of associated loss. There is a tiny speck of loss to the centre of the left edge. There are small instances of very minor reticulation with associated cracking to the brown paint in the right half of the work, with some further instances of very minor craquelure to the purple pigment at the upper edge and and further more minor instances elsewhere. There is some flattening to some of the impasto tips. There is surface dirt to the work, most notable in the lower right and upper left quadrants, with some studio detritus and surface matter, including instances of accretions. This excepting, the work appears to be in very good overall condition.

Inspection under Ultraviolet light reveals signs of fluorescence and retouching towards the centre of the upper edge with one or two further instances elsewhere, very sensitively executed.

The work is presented in a painted wooden frame under glass.
