IVORY COAST, AFRICAN, CARVED WOOD STANDING FEMALE FIGURE WITH YOUNG FIGURE SEATED H 17.25" W 6.5" D 6.5"

With three smaller figures on the sides of the seated figure and woman standing, featuring a darker stain. Eyes with touch of polychrome and hollowed at pupils. Entire composition carved from single block of wood in naturalistic manner. Circa 1880. Provenance: Estate of Jack Faxon, Birmingham, MI. Michigan Senator and creator of the Michigan Council for the Arts.
Condition: some wear to the base, consistent with age. No broken or missing elements. jw
