Ian Pyper b.1955 Penal Colony Ink Drawings 2pc LOT
Ian Pyper (British, born 1955), lot of two framed ink drawings on paper. The larger work, on paper washed in rust and sienna tones, depicts stitched-outline profile heads, eyes and symbols, with the words "The Penal Colony" worked into the composition, and bears an artist monogram in pencil lower right; presented under glazing with a white mat in a black frame. The smaller work, on orange paper, depicts interlocking stitched figures, faces and hands rendered in black ink with red accents; presented under glazing with a black mat in a black frame. Executed in a naive Outsider Art style with stitched outlines and dense hatching. Approximate sight sizes 15.5" x 19.5" and 11.5" x 8". Frames measure approximately 20.5" x 28" x 1" and 17"x 0.5" x 1".
Condition: Good overall condition with typical to mild surface wear. The frames exhibit normal storage wear along the edges and corners. The works have not been examined outside of the frames.
