Large Antique Old religious Russian Icons of Christ, 19th century, egg tempera, size 45 x 37 cm, A representation of Christ as Pantocrator with left of Him the Mother of God and right John the Forerunner is called Deesis. This Greek word means intercession. The Deesis is the central part of any iconostasis. Above the royal by Christ is enthroned, the Mother of God and John the Forerunner turning toward Him and leading a row of angels, apostles and saints who intercede for mankind. Good condition with wear, losses, significant later restorations.
