Antique Russian icon - ‘Christ Pantocrator’ from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera paint on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. Relatively detailed painting. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. The face of the saint is particularly expressive. The saint is labelled. The inscriptions are clearly legible. Only the inscription "Christus Pantokrator" is heavily worn and can no longer be seen. Partial restorations are present. The painting has very fine, authentic craquelure (see photos) . The icon is in good condition with signs of wear commensurate with age (see photos) . Two wooden laths are attached on the top and bottom ends of the back. The icon is probably a southern Russian work from ca. 1880. Please refer to the expertise (Autenried Castle) for further details. All details are clearly visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description. Dimensions: 35. 5 x 30. 5 x 2. 5 cm This is a private sale.
