[ translate ]

Antique Russian icon "Mother of God Iverskaya" with the baby Jesus. Hand-painted on a wooden panel with egg tempera paints on a chalk ground.

Typical method of icon making in the 18th and 19th centuries in Tsarist Russia. The motif is widespread and very popular in the Orthodox Church.

This is an Old Believer icon. The painting is done quite masterfully and in detail. Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shades. The painting contains very authentic craquelures (see photos) .

Partial restorations and major corrections have been made (see photos) , particularly in the face of the boy Jesus. The faces of the saints are particularly expressive and striking (see photos) . The saints are labeled. The labels are easy to read.

The icon was created around 1850-1880 in Central Russia. There are forehead sponkas at the top and bottom. Stable and solid wooden panel.

The icon is in a moderate condition with typical signs of age-related wear (see photos) . There is a vertical crack on the back that runs the entire height of the icon. This crack is also clearly visible on the front of the icon (see photos) . However, the painting is hardly affected by the crack. The wooden panel is quite stable despite the crack.

All details can be clearly seen in the photos. Photos are part of the description.
