Icon, Saint Theodosius of Chernigo - Wood - Late 19th century
Antique Russian icon bought in the early 1990s (immediately after the fall of the communist regime) from an antique dealer in the city of Moscow. Painted with egg tempera on gold foil on wood, sanded with layers of plaster to remove any porosity, as required by tradition. The painting depicts a Saint and reveals an extreme attention to detail. Nicely decorated, it shows a slight damage on the left side. The icon comes with a frame.
