Large, antique Russian icon as "cruciform reliquary icon" with removable cross (probably made of brass) . Hand painted with egg tempera colours on a composite of three wooden panels with a chalk background and golden primer. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. The painting is not very detailed. But is very authentic and impressive. The icon was created in the 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia, ca. 1850. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. The back of the cross is decorated with various patterns. The size of the icon alone is impressive. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear in the form of scratches, paint flaking and bumps (see photos) . The three wooden panels have already been processed (glued) . And in addition, a mounting clip has been attached to the wood. The icon is therefore stable and does not come apart. A very decorative and eye-catching icon. The painting has craquelure. Partial restorations are present. Both transverse wooden laths are missing on the back. All details are clearly visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description.
