Icon - Wood, Mother of God `` Relieve my sorrow '' - Second half 19th century

Antique Russian icon “Mother of God Assuage My Sorrows” from the second half of the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colours on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. The painting is not particularly detailed and rather roughly executed. The icon and the saints are labelled. The inscriptions are sometimes difficult to read. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related traces of wear in the form of scratches, paint flaking, bumps (see photos) . Two wooden laths are attached on the top and bottom ends of the back. Relatively rare motif. All details are clearly visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description.
