Ignazio Thaon de Revel - Autograph; Letter on Napoleon's Hundred Days to English Government - 1815

[ translate ]

Beautiful letter written during the 100 days of Napoleon Bonaparte addressed to an English general (presumably General Lord William Bentinck) . In the letter, Thaon de Revel reminds the general of their glorious past as companions of arms and compliments the glory he has acquired. T. d. R. informs his friend that the bearer of this letter, Major Earl of Laval, will stop by him before reaching Lord Wellington at the headquarters in Waterloo. He will then inform him of the facts concerning him. T. d. R. then describes the Count of Laval as an excellent friend and servant of the King. He ends the letter by regretting not having being able to meet his friend in London last summer, but tells him that they will meet again in Paris in a few days. This message is auspicious because the letter was written only ten days before the Battle of Waterloo, whose victory led the British to enter Paris, thus ending the Napoleonic era.
