single bifolium, forming 4 pages of text, single column, 7 lines of black cursive naskh with some overlining in deep red, some light water-staining along upper edge of leaves causing a little abrasion to text, some small worm-holes (rarely affecting text), modern flyleaves inserted, 134 by 180 mm.; modern marbled paper boards
Provenance: Rasulid Sultan of Yemmen "Al-Ashraf Umar bin Yusif Rasul" (d. 1296 AD): marginal inscription, possibly in a later hand. Presently from a collector based in the United Kingdom, and here since the 1970s.
Text: Ibn Sahhuna (d. 1295) was a senior physician in the famous Nur ad-Din Bimarestan (hospital) in Damascus. He was renowned as both a medical practitioner as well as an Islamic Hanafi fiqh scholar and philosopher. This bifolium is taken from a general medical treatise evidently copied in his own hand, and the parent volume was most probably used as a reference tool in the hospital.
