Imilac Meteorite "Skeleton" Pallasite, PMG Antofagasta, Chile - (24° 12' 12"S, 68° 48' 24"W Found: 1822 Relatively small, and most visually unusual, this specimen may not look much like any meteorite at first sight, but it is indeed an extraterrestrial traveler from Outer Space, actually representing one of the most prominent Pallasite varieties in the world. This Imilac "Skeleton" was formed as a result of the Olivine crystals having weathered out of the structure, leaving just the "skeleton" of a meteorite, as it were. This collectible oddity from the Atacama Desert in Chile is quite dramatic, with a plethora of sharp metallic extensions radiating off the Iron form, which is covered in craters and has a very intense texture. This will surely not be the biggest meteorite in any collection, weighing only 38 grams, but it may just be the most interesting and intriguing. Who knew a Pallasite without crystals could be this "cool?" Measurements: 1.87 x 1.07 x 0.90 inches (4.74 x 2.72 x 2.28 cm), weighs 38.2 grams HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
