Imilac Meteorite Slab Pallasite, PMG Antofagasta, Chile - (24° 12' 12"S, 68° 48' 24"W) Found: 1822 Of the three main varieties of meteorites – Iron, Stony-Iron, and Stone – the pallasitic type is often referred to as the most beautiful, due to the presence of "gem" crystals from Outer Space within the metallic structures. Of the small number of meteorites classified as Pallasites (less than 60), Imilac has been a highly prized variety due to the size and concentration of colorful Olivine grains visible when pieces are cut and polished. This amazing thin slab resembles the form of a "fish" in the abstract and boasts numerous large and translucent greenish golden-brown Peridot crystals, representing the August birthstone in a most unique fashion. Weighing 51.1 grams, this offering is fairly sizable and, certainly, visually impactful. Both faces of this metallic form are full of crystals, and only a few have imperfections or have partially weathered out of the metal matrix. This is just one of those outstanding pieces combining size, shape, form, and rarity perfectly and resulting in an ideal collection piece. Pallasites are inherently rare, and Imilac is one of the very best to own. Measurements: 4.57 x 2.46 x 0.16 inches (11.61 x 6.25 x 0.40 cm), weighs 51.1 grams HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
