Important 19th century whitework embroidery including one example from Huber Studer & Co, St Gallen: a presentation card displaying three very fine examples of whitework, with their design number above, one stated to be for a man’s handkerchief, which may be the larger example showing the American eagle and the motto “E Pluribus Unum” meaning “Out of many, one.” This is the literal translation for the motto of the United States of America. It was a motto suggested by a committee on July 4, 1776, the smaller example with flowers and initial M doubles for a lady (3 on one card)
