Important Pirkenhammer Fischer Mieg Porcelain Monteith

Important Pirkenhammer Fischer Mieg Porcelain Monteith Wine Cooler Jardiniere

An important porcelain monteith wine cooler, made by Fischer & Mieg, Pirkenhammer, during the 2nd half of the 19th Century.
On four pedestal feet, the monteith is predominantly in the neoclassical style, with a cobalt blue background that has been gilded with scrolling floral patterns. Below this is a band of fluted archways, highlighted with gilding and four-petal flowers. The base and handles are of architectural form and have been carved with aesthetic movement spirals and spoked wheels. The top and bottom of the wine cooler have been heavily gilded, offering a striking contrast with the cobalt blue between.
No doubt commissioned for a wealthy client, the monteith is reminiscent of the 18th Century wares of Sevres, Meissen and Vienna.
The condition is very good, with no structural damage or chipping to the porcelain. The cobalt blue ground is without wear, but small sections of the gilding around the feet and handles have worn over time. The base of the cooler bears the crossed hammer mark, used by Pirkenhammer from the mid 19th Century.
