A pair of beautiful fire-gilded and patinated bronze ornamental jugs, in the style of Claude Galle. The jugs have an elongated baluster shape. The top of the handle is decorated with a griffin head. The whole stands on a base of Vert de Grèce marble. These magnificent ornamental jugs can be in the style of Claude Galle (1759-1815) , one of the leading bronze casters and fondeur-chaser of the late Louis XVI period and the Empire, who had several such designs in his oeuvre. Similar jugs can be found in the collections of the Pavlovsk Palace and the Yusupov Palace in St. Louis. Petersburg, at the Ostankino Palace in Moscow and a couple at the Württemberg Landesmuseum in Stuttgart. Another similar pair was owned by the Earl of Essex in Cassiobury Park in the nineteenth century. Especially in Russia, where the models were copied or followed in other artefacts by, among others, Andrei Voronikhin (1759-1814) and the bronze caster Friedrich Bergenfeldt ((1768-1822) . 1493 grams each.
