With a rich canary-gold tone, the coin has significant eye appeal, and is one of the most popular rarities of the East India Company series. One of the first East India Company coins to bear the sovereign’s portrait on the obverse and the lion and palm to the reverse, a significant change from the previous traditional Indian coins bearing Persian inscriptions to both sides. The first coins struck in September were silver, while the gold and copper started being struck in December. With sumptuous glossy fields and heavy frosting to the bust, the coin is the best example of its type graded by NGC or PCGS.
