Indonesian Brass Crocodile Toy Percussion Cannon

[ translate ]

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Borneo, Kalimantan region, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A charming cast-brass toy percussion cannon in the form of a stylized crocodile. The reptilian figure has a slender head, a raised tail, and a scaled body that stands with attenuated legs upon a pair of axles. Each axle houses two discoid wheels - with wider wheels on the front and narrower wheels on the back - and enables the toy to be pulled. The crocodile's open mouth has a central cavity meant to hold a petite projectile, and a wick hole in the back enabled the cannon to be fired. Size: 11.8" L x 2.7" W (30 cm x 6.9 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired in October 2009; ex-private Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#151894 Dimensions: Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to wheels, tail, body, and head, with softening to some finer details, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits and wonderful patina throughout. Cannon has not been tested for firing functionality.
