Indus Valley Bi-Chrome Vessel w/ Felines, TL Tested

Ancient Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan/Mohenjo-Daro Civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery vessel depicting a pair of abstract large felines on the body, perhaps representing leopards or panthers. Each elongated feline creature has clawed feet, large eyes atop the ovoid heads, and lattice-pattern motifs indicative of spots across the bodies. The creatures prowl amongst broad foliage atop concentric stripes once filled with red pigment. The circular vessel has a flared rim and tapered walls that rest upon a broad disc foot. Size: 5.25" W x 5.3" H (13.3 cm x 13.5 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available for $50 to the buyer. Please contact us to request.

Condition Report: Repair to one area of upper walls and rim, with restoration to missing area, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, walls, and foot, with fading to original pigmentation, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and remains of original pigment throughout. TL drill holes on inside of rim and beneath foot.
