Indus Valley Bichrome Jar w/ Horizontal Striations

Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2300 to 1900 BCE. A remarkable pottery jar presenting a spherical body and curved shoulder that rises to an elevated rim, all sitting upon a narrow, planar base. Enveloped in a hue of burnt sienna, the exterior of the vessel is adorned with 3 groups of 5 to 6 slender, black-painted, horizontal bands. Size: 6.5" Diameter x 4.4" H (16.5 cm x 11.2 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition Report: Repaired with restoration over some break lines and others visible. Restoration to rim. Nicks, chips, and abrasions throughout. Otherwise, excellent with nice remining pigments and lovely earthen deposits.
