Indus Valley Pottery Bowl w/ Hexagonal Motif

Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2300 to 1900 BCE. A pretty pottery bowl presenting impressively thin walls that rise straight up to a gently flared rim, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. Enveloped in a creamy beige slip, the elegant vessel is skillfully adorned on its exterior with a horizontal band of black-painted, striated hexagons flanked above and below by a series of black and red horizontal lines. An additional black striation encircles the interior of the rim, followed by a thick red ring. Size: 5" Diameter x 3.3" H (12.7 cm x 8.4 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010
