Ingraham Oak Gingerbread Mantel Clock
22.5 x 14 inches. This mechanical mantel clock, often referred to as a gingerbread or kitchen clock, features an elaborate oak case with late Victorian decorative motifs. The case is constructed with pressed and embossed wood elements, including a central floral crest and side panels depicting hanging grape clusters with foliage. The lower vertical supports and the sloped base section are finished with a repeating basketweave or honeycomb textured pattern. The clock face is housed within an octagonal molded frame. The dial is made of paper or card applied over a metal pan, marked at the bottom with the printed text THE E. INGRAHAM CO. It features black Roman numerals and two winding arbors for a time-and-strike movement. Below the dial, a glass tablet is decorated with a gilded, stenciled design featuring a horseshoe framed by radiating sunburst lines, which serves as a viewing window for the internal pendulum. The reverse of the clock retains a heavily damaged and partially illegible adhesive paper label. Legible printed text on the label includes SPER. on the top line, followed by THE E. INGRAHAM COMPANY BRISTOL, CONN., U. S. A. on the second line. Directions for regulation and setting are printed below. Handwritten in dark ink or pencil across the wood on the reverse is the date Mar 22-1897. The internal mechanical movement is spring-driven; the pendulum rod is visible through the glass, though the bob is not currently attached.
