Condition Report:
The canvas is lined and is stable and taut on its stretcher. The image reads very well beneath clear varnish with gradations in shadow retained. Minor frame abrasion is slightly visible along the right edge but is not distracting. A few spots of discolored retouching are visible to the naked eye such as at lower right in the shadow on the floor and at upper left in the wall decoration, but are not distracting. Under UV inspection, the varnish is milky and difficult to read through, but the aforementioned retouches are barely visible scattered in background areas. Some newer retouching, including small spots on the leftmost figure’s head and in the central man’s face, are clearer. The painting can hang in its present state. Offered in a decoratively carved giltwood frame.
