Native America, Canadian / First Nations, Inuit, ca. 20th century CE. Signed in syllabics with disc number "42934" on underside of base. A fascinating soapstone carving featuring an abstract head of an animal, perhaps a whale. Set on a textured base that nicely complements the smoothly-carved head, the stylized visage features huge, almond-shaped eyes, a protruding brow, a curved nose with delineated nostrils, and broad, down-turned lips. Size: 3.3" L x 5.3" W x 8.5" H (8.4 cm x 13.5 cm x 21.6 cm)
