(1) Levi Alusua Pirti Smith (First Nations / Inuit, Povungnituk, Disc number E9-1326, 1927-1968). Soapstone skate carving, n.d. Signed on underside of base; (2) L.K. (First Nations / Inuit, ca. 20th to 21st century CE). Soapstone seal carving, n.d. Signed "L.K. / 184216" on underside of base. A lovely pair of soapstone carvings by Inuit artists Levi Alusua Pirti Smith and L.K.: a skate and a seal. Sculpted by Levi Smith, the skate presents a long, slithering body and a raised, arrow-shaped head with large, prominent eyes and delineated pupils. Alternatively, the seal is depicted playfully seated with upper body upright, his tail lying before him as he holds his flippers together at his chest. Size of larger (skate): 9" L x 3" W x 2.8" H (22.9 cm x 7.6 cm x 7.1 cm)
