Inuit Stone Bird Carvings, Signed by Paulassie Eqilaq

First Nations / Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, & Canada, Sanikiluaq, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A pair of hand carved soapstone sculptures of geese or swans, with slender necks and wings tucked as if resting or floating on water. The underside of the larger bird is etched with the artist's disc number (E9-142) and Inuktitut syllabics for Paulassie Eqilaq (First Nations Canadian, Inuit, b. 1934). The other bird is unsigned and likely by a different artist, the underside also has the remains of a small bone peg that may have been mounted to a stone base. Size of signed bird: 7" L x 2" W x 4.5" H (17.8 cm x 5.1 cm x 11.4 cm)
