Shepler was born in West Virginia in 1876. He moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1919. In San Antonio, he met and studied with artist Peter Lanz Hohnstedt. His impressionist landscapes are definitely influenced by Hohnstedt's works. Shepler demonstrated a keen sense for color, balance and rhythm. His subjects were mostly Texas Hill Country landscapes. He designed and carved the frames for many of his paintings. Shepler maintained a studio at the Gibb's Building, downtown San Antonio in the 1930's. His earliest exhibit was at the Witte Museum in 1930. Dimensions:
